GeoDigital Drives NERC Compliance within Vegetation Management and Engineering Industries
February 13, 2012
NERC Compliance is continuing to grow in complexity. In fact, NERC (News - Alert) was originally created to “ensure the reliability of the bulk power system in North America with the mission of developing and enforcing reliability standards and conducting adequacy assessments annually.”
One thing that makes NERC compliance so tricky these days, according to AlertEnterprise officials, is “the combination of IT Security for cyber critical assets, the creation of electronic security perimeters and tracking physical access to critical assets for employees and contractors.”
To help officials adhere to NERC compliance regulations in vegetation and engineering environments, GeoDigital, a provider of LiDAR and imaging technology, has launched Grid^Intel (News
- Alert) Online (GIO) and the WorkStudio solution.
Following the acquisition of Powel back in December, GeoDigital was able to seamlessly integrate imaging and data acquisition technologies to perform airborne and ground mapping services with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) for applications that include vegetation management, line rating and clearance analysis.
The Grid^Intel Online and WorkStudio was designed to make LiDAR data immediately actionable, which will help utilities manage risk and avoid NERC compliance issues. The solution when combined with GeoDigital’s innovative LiDAR technology and analysis processes results in the creation of an LiDAR mapping program that features cost-effective re-mapping and inspection of the structures and right-of-way.
With GeoDigital’s solution, LiDAR survey data is quickly manipulated into logical, documented work plans that can be shared across different departments in utilities. It will help engineers and foresters get critical information in real-time and prevent threats before they could affect their properties. The data captured throughout the work process can then be organized into reports supporting NERC compliance.
“Combining GeoDigital’s data acquisition technology and Web-delivery with WorkStudio’s work management technology provides a turnkey solution for utilities to manage the maintenance of both their physical assets and their rights of way,” said GeoDigital Solutions President Scott Rogers, in a statement. “It provides utilities all of the technology and all of the functionality that they need to meet the regulatory demands that they are facing today.”
