NERC compliance is growing in complexity mainly because it deals with a combination of IT security for cyber critical assets, creation of electronic security parameters and tracking physical access to critical assets for employees and contractors. Meeting NERC (News - Alert) standards is a huge accomplishment for firms.

Recently Owl Computing Technologies, a provider of security solutions to secure networks from cyber threats, announced that U.S. Bulk Electric System (BES) operators who have deployed Owl electronic perimeter defense solutions in their cyber asset installation have satisfied NERC-CIP Compliance Application Notice 0024 (CAN-0024).

Owl’s embedded data diode products are based on the company’s DualDiode technology. The company offers different installation types including a single rack mounted chassis containing independent send and receive processors that are each mated with its own embedded diode; two independent servers, each containing its own embedded diode; and two independent servers, each with its own embedded diode, that transfer and other operator tasks.

“Within the critical infrastructure community, and especially within the power generation segment, how to best protect the segregated control system network and meet evolving regulatory standards are two of the most pressing questions today," said Ron Mraz, Owl founder & CTO, in a statement.

These embedded data diodes meet the most rigorous NERC compliance standards because they only communicate with each other and then only via Owl’s exclusive non-routable protocol, Mraz added.

“While they physically resemble network interface cards, their design and patented circuitry does not connect to any network,” Mraz further added. “They fit our energy customers' needs to a 'T,' and permit them to roll out cybe rsecure solutions gracefully and cost-effectively."
