IDC Conference to Address Challenges, Benefits, and Expectations of RFID
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- April 26, 2004 -- With mandates from Wal-Mart and the Department of Defense (DoD) driving hundreds of product manufacturers toward the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags on their shipments, 2004 has been touted as the year of RFID. On June 6 and 7, the IDC RFID Update Conference will present the latest news and developments about the state of RFID. The conference, to be held at the Sheraton Boston Hotel, will feature market research and analysis from IDC and Accenture, as well as case studies from the companies supplying and implementing RFID solutions.
"RFID has significant hurdles to overcome before it's ready for widespread adoption," said Christopher Boone, program manager for Vertical Industry Research: Retail/Wholesale at IDC. "However, with the Wal-Mart and DoD mandates pressing the industry forward, many of these issues will need to be resolved in a matter of months. The compressed schedule makes this is a critical period that will shape the future of RFID."
The IDC RFID Update Conference was designed to provide a forum for executives evaluating or contributing to critical RFID decisions within their organization. Among the questions to be addressed by the conference are the following:
-- What are the costs and risks associated with adopting RFID technology?
-- What does it mean to be Wal-Mart and DoD "compliant"?
-- How are ISO and EPC Standards expected to come together?
-- What are the business cases for adopting RFID technology?
-- What customer privacy concerns can be expected?
In addition to providing the latest news, research, and case studies, the conference offers an important opportunity for attendees to network with their peers and to discuss the challenges and solutions faced in the real world.
Sponsors and Partners of the IDC RFID Update conference include:
Accenture, Intel Corporation, Deloitte, Texas Instruments RFID Systems, VeriSign, OATSystems, ODIN Technologies, InfoWorld, RIS News, SCAN: The Data Capture Report, Supply Chain Systems Magazine, Wall Street Journal and Wireless ITWorld.
