David J. Lam Named AAMA 2010 President

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- The Asia America MultiTechnology Association (AAMA), Silicon Valley's leading business network aimed at fostering business growth, entrepreneurship and capital investment in technology enterprises across Silicon Valley and Asia, today announced David J. Lam, managing director of WI Harper Group, as its new president. Known for his leadership skills and success in conducting business in Asia and the US, Lam will be influential in guiding the association‘s program direction and international growth in 2010.

Founded in 1979, the AAMA is one of Silicon Valley's oldest, largest and most established non-profit organizations dedicated to building a high-technology community that shares a passion for business in Asia and the Pacific Rim. Lam takes the helm of the AAMA at a time when technology innovation and investment in Asia is increasing exponentially. According to IDC (News - Alert), the Asia Pacific region will experience 6 percent growth in IT spending in 2010, with China and India expected to experience double-digit growth (11.5 percent and 13.5 percent, respectively) this year.

Lam has spent over 10 years working in private equity, technology and investment banking. He is managing director of WI Harper Group, a venture capital firm that invests in early and expansion stage companies with significant operations in China. He invests in information technology and clean technology sectors and is responsible for the firm's US operations.

Prior to joining WI Harper, David was a Vice President at The Carlyle Group, a global private equity firm, where he led and managed investments in telecommunications and technology-enabled business services sectors for its U.S. venture and growth capital fund. While at Carlyle, David served on the Board of Directors and as the Audit Committee Chair of Actelis Networks, and as a Board Observer of Air2Web (News - Alert), eScreen, Ingenio and Panasas. David's career includes tenure in marketing and business development at CIENA Corporation (Nasdaq CIEN), ONI Systems (Nasdaq ONIS), Cisco (News - Alert) Systems (Nasdaq CSCO) and Proxim (Nasdaq PROX), and he worked in the M&A group at Robertson Stephens & Company.

David served as an Executive Fellow in the California Governor's Office and earned his M.B.A. from the MIT (News - Alert) Sloan School of Business, where he was a Merit Scholar and recipient of the Patrick G. McGovern Award for Entrepreneurship. He holds an MA in Sociology and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, and completed coursework at Beijing University and the Beijing Language Institute.
