Ekolo to Relocate Ibadan Secretariat

Arrangements are at advanced stage for the relocation of the administrative headquarters of Ibadan South East Local Government Area currently at Mapo in the Oyo State capital to a new place within the popular Scout Camp complex in the Felele area of the metropolis before the middle of this year.

Chairman of the council, Abiodun Bolarinwa Adedoja-Ekolo, disclosed this while presenting the Council's 2010 proposed budget to the legislative arm of the council for approval.

According to the council boss, the relocation of the headquarters to the newly-acquired four-acre parcel of land at the Scout Camp, Felele area of Ibadan had become imperative in view of the noticeable insufficient offices at the present Mapo complex.

While assuring that the planned relocation would not suffer poor funding, the council chairman disclosed that N40 million had been reserved for the new administrative headquarters in the council's Stabilisation Account, which had been deliberately earmarked for the project.

The council chairman declared: "It is a thing of joy for me to inform this honourable house and indeed the good people of the local government that the Nigerian Scout Association has approved the local government request for the release of part of the association's camp site land at Felele for our proposed new Secretariat Complex in principle.

"We have already set necessary machinery in motion towards commencing construction activities at the site in anticipation of the conclusion of handing over formalities. Let me assure you that the project will not suffer funding problems as we have enough fund in our Stabilization Account which we have deliberately earmarked for this purpose." He maintained that the present administration will continue to accord paramount importance to staff welfare hence the plans to clear the remnant of the 2008 leave allowance and the outstanding 2009 leave bonus of staff before the end of the second quarter of this year.

"We also intend to purchase additional official vehicles to replace the aged ones in our fleet for effective service delivery. While effort is on to acquire additional official visafone Closed User Group GSM phones for the political functionaries and senior career officers that were not captured in the first phase of the project.

"Similarly, we intend to commence the granting of vehicle refurbishing loans to our staff this year," he further stated while urging the career officers to reciprocate the welfare packages by abstaining from all acts that are antithetical to the ethics and code of conduct of the service.

While unveiling the Council's 2010 Appropriation Bill of N1,097,800,000.00 tagged, "Budget of Consolidation", the Local Government Chairman remarked that it was significant in that it was aimed at taking the Council to the next level in terms of strengthening governance for sustainable socio-economic development and improved quality of living for the entire inhabitants of the area.

Highlights of the budget include plan to provide bursary awards to the tune of N2 million to indigenes of the Local Government in institutions of higher learning across the country, proposal to drill at least two boreholes in each ward within the local government as well as the construction of a new Maternity Centre at Iyana Court, Ile-Tuntun for which approval had been obtained from the state Government since last year.
