Landis+Gyr Advanced Meter Deployment at Ameren Illinois Utilities Reaches Milestone

Landis+Gyr announced it has completed deployment of more than 1
million advanced meters for Ameren Illinois utilities, the electric
and gas utility serving electric and natural gas customers in
southern Illinois.
Landis+Gyr installed and now operates an advanced metering network
for Ameren Illinois under a managed services agreement. The project
began in 2006 and now represents 1.1 million electric and gas meters
across a very large portion of the Ameren Illinois service territory.
The 1.1 million meters deployed are about one half of the Ameren
Illinois' meter population. Landis+Gyr deployed a network in these
areas to support current metering applications. The network is
capable of communicating with both one-way and two-way metering and
distribution devices.
"Now that we have completed the meter and module installations as
planned, we are capturing the operational and customer service
benefits of automation and are in a position to evaluate the
automation of the remaining 1.1 million meters. We are also starting
to look for added value from the network," said Bruce Hollibaugh,
Manager of Illinois Metering & Projects for Ameren Illinois. "Some of
the value-added services we will be evaluating include remote
disconnect/connect, remote demand resets, and interface with home
area networking to support real-time pricing programs."
Landis+Gyr has also operated an electric and gas automated metering
network for AmerenUE in Missouri since 1995. Combined, the Ameren
utilities now have more than 2.5 million advanced meters deployed.
Both networks are deployed and operated by Landis+Gyr under managed
service agreements with the utilities. In Missouri, Landis+Gyr is
also working with Tendril to provide in-home energy displays to a
limited number of Ameren customers.
