Landrieu Secures More Than $3 Million for Louisiana in Key Appropriations Bills

WASHINGTON -- United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today secured $3 million for Louisiana in three key bills passed by the committee. The funds will support several local projects that will create jobs, promote health and foster diplomacy. The legislation now proceeds to the full Senate for debate and passage.
The committee approved the FY 2011 Financial Services and General Government, Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies and State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Bills.
Among the provisions Sen. Landrieu secured is a Visa Interview Video Conferencing Pilot program for processing tourist visas using secure remote videoconferencing. According to the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, international tourism generates more than $600 million in revenue for south Louisiana businesses and the tourism industry employs 70,000 people in New Orleans alone. The legislation also includes $600,000 for the East Carroll Parish Hospital Emergency Room.
"With Louisiana's budget facing drastic cuts, it is important that the federal government make wise investments to ensure that our state has adequate health facilities and strong educational institutions," said Sen. Landrieu. "This bill will provide Louisiana with essential programs to invest in the health and education of our residents, as well as provide additional job opportunities."
Below is a list of Louisiana projects secured by Sen. Landrieu in the bills passed by the Appropriations Committee today.
Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Bill
* $137,500 for the Greater New Orleans, Inc.'s Green New Orleans: A Green Business and Jobs Initiative (Green N.O.)
* $100,000 for The University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) Business Incubator Renovation
* $137,500 for Grambling State University's Expanding Minority Entrepreneurship Regionally Across the Louisiana Delta (EMERALD)
Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill
* $250,000 for the SEED School of Louisiana Exploratory Project
* $200,000 for the St. Bernard Project's Good Work Good Pay Program
* $600,000 for the East Carroll Parish Hospital Emergency Room
* $100,000 for Southeastern Louisiana University's Better Schools/ Better University/Best Choice program
* $300,000 for the Tulane University Integrated Bioscience Facility
* $200,000 for CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini's Coordinated School Health
* $200,000 for Workforce Operations Department: Training Services for Adults and Dislocated Workers in Demand Occupations in the Rapides Parish Police Jury
* $250,000 for Dillard University's Gentilly Center for Health Disparities and Disease Prevention
* $200,000 for Save the Children's Louisiana Early Child Development Program
* $100,000 for Grambling State University's Lifelines Program
* $100,000 for Holy Angels Residential Facility's AngelWorks Day Program
* $150,000 for PACE Greater New Orleans to develop additional services and space.
