Gartner Names Cleversafe in 2010 Hype Cycle and Object-Based Storage Emerging Technology Analysis Report

Cleversafe, a provider of resilient storage solutions suited for storage clouds and massive digital archives, announced that it has been included in two recent research reports from Gartner: Hype Cycle for Storage Technologies (as a sample vendor) and Emerging Technology Analysis: Object-Based Storage Targets Cloud Storage Infrastructure.
According to a release, the Emerging Technology Analysis classifies Cleversafe as a vendor within the cloud-oriented object-based storage. Additionally, Gartner cites Cleversafe in the cloud-based storage emerging technology analysis report as an emerging vendor.
As mentioned in Gartner's Emerging Technology report, the new generation of object-based storage "strives to be the most cost-effective solution for intelligent, easy-to-manage, policy-driven content distribution around the globe, as well as for data archive or backup in the cloud."
"Cloud computing has grown in popularity because it provides a new, alternative delivery and consumption model for IT services based on the Internet," noted Chris Gladwin, CEO and co-founder of Cleversafe. "Object storage is emerging as a standard for cloud storage, particularly in cases involving storage and distribution of unstructured content, such as images and video and audio files, which is a sweet spot for Cleversafe."
Cleversafe's Dispersed Storage technology has been in the market for more than two years, securely divides data into slices, and then disperses them to multiple storage nodes typically across three or four data centers. Each individual slice is unrecognizable as data and therefore inherently secure, whereas a defined threshold of slices can be used to bit-perfectly recreate the original data. This approach replaces costly replication and reduces storage requirements by 50 to 70 percent, yet has even higher availability than four replicated copies. Included within Cleversafe Dispersed Storage technology is its 2.1 software, released in June, and offers key requirements for IT managers to manage cloud storage as part of their overall service options.
