Gerald Printing heading up food drive
Dec 11, 2012 (News-Democrat & Leader - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
For 15 years, Gerald Printing has printed an annual color desk calendar and provided it to its customers and other individuals free of charge.
That's changing this year -- but it's for a good cause.
Gerald Printing is asking anyone that wants one of the colorful 2013 desk calendars to bring in a canned food item or other nonperishable food in exchange for it.
"This is just a way for us to get behind a good cause during the Christmas season," said Shane Hayes, the manager of the Gerald Printing location in Russellville.
The calendars can be picked up at either the Gerald Printing office on Hopkinsville Road or at the Logan County Chamber of Commerce.
"Our office in Bowling Green has a really good relationship with the Salvation Army and they are giving their food to them, but we wanted to keep all our donations local here in Logan County, so all our canned items will be going to the Logan County Good Samaritan," Hayes said.
Hayes has already donated over 100 cans to Good Samaritan.
"It was a really good feeling taking those in over there," he said. "Our goal is to provide them with over 1,000 cans."
Businesses as well as individuals are encouraged to take part in the food drive.
"We usually give the Carpenter Company about 50 calendars every year and they brought us several boxes of canned goods in return," Hayes said.
Suggested items to bring in include canned meats (such as chili, beef stew, soups, tuna, chick or salmon), fruits, sugar, peanut butter, cereal or canned vegetables.
The 2013 desk calendar features "Healthy Living Tips". Throughout the year, you will read about nutrition, healthy eating, how to diet, exercise, and general health tips. Each month features a different message that you can use to improve your health and have fun doing so. A number of websites are also featured for you to further investigate how to live a healthy lifestyle. Enjoy each month of 2013 and do something healthy.
