BRIEF: Shellfishing initiative underway in Rhode Island

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- A plan's underway to support and promote shellfishing in Rhode Island.
The inaugural meeting of the Rhode Island Shellfish Management Plan is Monday at 6 p.m. in Corless Auditorium on South Ferry Road in Narragansett, at URI's bay campus.
The public is invited. People will hear about issues and management decisions relating to shellfishing, and how important shellfishing is to Rhode Island.
Speakers will include Bruce Corliss, dean of URI's Graduate School of Oceanography; Sen. Susan Sosnowski, D-South Kingstown; and Rep. Eileen Naughton, D-Warwick.
The shellfish management plan is a collaboration of the state's Department of Environmental Management and the Coastal Resources Management Council, and URI.
