UIC cops warn students after West Side robbery

Jan 31, 2013 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- University of Illinois at Chicago Police are warning of the robbery of two students Wednesday night near the UIC campus.

The male students were robbed about 11:50 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Loomis Street, according to an alert from UIC Police.

Three young men or boys, one of them with a gun, went up to the two students and demanded their property, according to police. The students handed over what the robbers had demanded, and the robbers ran south on Loomis, then got into a maroon car, and drove off east on Crenshaw Street.

The armed robber, who had a black handgun, was described as a black man, about 21, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 140 pounds. He had brown eyes, a dark complexion and short black braided hair. He was wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt.

The second robber is described as a black man or boy, age 17 to 19, standing about 5-foot-4 and weighing about 120 pounds, with brown eyes, a medium complexion and black hair. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The third robber was a black man, age 19 to 20, standing about 5-foot-6, weighing about 130 pounds, with brown eyes, a dark complexion and black hair. He was wearing a green and light gray hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about the robbers is asked to call UIC Police at 312-996-2830.
