CEA Applauds Alliance Commission's Focus on Energy Productivity, Regulatory Reform and Voluntary Approaches
ARLINGTON, Va. --(Business Wire)--
The following statement can be attributed to Doug Johnson (News - Alert), vice
president, technology policy, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®,
regarding recommendations designed to double U.S. energy productivity by
2030, contained in a report issued by the Alliance to Save Energy's
Alliance Commission on National Energy Efficiency Policy:
"CEA congratulates the Alliance Commission on National Energy Efficiency
Policy on its work and applauds its economically oriented focus on
energy efficiency. We share the Alliance Commission's belief that there
are strategies to support its energy productivity goal that can be
implemented without burdensome mandates or massive government spending.
We recognize, too, that regulatory reform is needed at the federal and
state levels; that energy use information helps consumers; and that
information and communication technology plays a major role in advancing
energy efficiency across the economy.
"CEA and its members continue to lead the way in supporting and
advancing energy efficiency in consumer electronics through public
policy, research and analysis, industry standards and consumer
education. Electronics account for a majority of the savings in the
voluntary ENERGY STAR (News - Alert) program, and more than four billion ENERGY
STAR-qualified consumer electronics have been sold. The recently
announced Set-Top
Box Energy Conservation Agreement also demonstrates that industry
initiatives can deliver energy savings to support national goals faster
than regulation while protecting innovation, competition and consumer
choice."
