Shazam Music Service Now Available on Samsung Devices

Expected to become globally available by April and May 2009, the BEAT Edition mobile phones combine touchscreen technology, high-quality sound and features designs inspired by iconic jukebox imagery. The Samsung (News - Alert) BeatDJ and Samsung BeatDISC have set a new standard in Samsung’s music phone line up.

Running Samsung’s intuitive DISC User Interface, both phones come complete with Bang & Olufsen audio technology as well as advanced music application for locating, buying and recommending music.

These new phones will initially include the new Find Similar and Find Tag features letting users benefit from an enhanced music experience.

Using Shazam’s collaborative filtering technology, Find Similar suggests similar music tracks for customers based on other tracks they’ve tagged. When an end-user tags a track, recommendations are provided for similar tracks based on the behavior of more than 35 million other Shazamers around the world.

When some of the music track information is missing or incorrect, Find Tag helps end-users trace details of current tracks on their phone. To use these feature, consumers select a track1 within the Find Tag feature, the song is then analyzed and the correct metadata including title, artist, album and genre is returned and the information is added to the track. With this feature, consumers can fully explore their collection from searching, sorting or creating a customized playlist by artist or genre.

Andrew Fisher, Shazam’s CEO, says the company has been collaborating with Samsung for several years now and Shazam has been embedded in many of their handsets.

“We’ve worked closely with Samsung to incorporate feedback on how we could build on the existing Find Music service and these new features for Samsung’s latest handsets offer an even greater music experience for their customers,” said Fisher.

According to Younghee Lee, vice president of Global Marketing Team at Samsung Electronics, “We are pleased to be extending our partnership with these fabulous new features to provide music lovers with the perfect music experience; in particular with the Find Similar feature powered by Shazam’s unique mobile music recommendations engine, which is just as impressive as their popular music recognition service.”

Thanks to the latest music dedicated features powered by Shazam, the Samsung Beat Editions will gain the attention of music lovers everywhere.

Fisher added, “We’re delighted to be able to take Samsung customers on a music journey from the point of discovery of a song, recommending new tracks and showcasing popular artists to sharing this knowledge with friends and purchasing the product.”

With the launch of these new features, Shazam is enabling Samsung customers to discover more about their own music as well as tapping into a vast community of music lovers to offer an enhanced music experience.

Shazam is a mobile music discovery application that enables consumers to enjoy and share music with others across mobile devices and the Internet. With more than 35 million end-users since its launch as the first mobile-specific service to help consumers discover new music, Shazam has created a new way for music lovers to connect to each other through their music.

Headquartered in London England, Shazam’s solutions enhance the music strategies of more than 75 carriers across 60 markets globally, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Vodafone (News - Alert). The company has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Mobile Entertainment Award for Best Music Service Provider.
