The Siemens Energy Sector, which has always supported Smart Grid investment with the implementation of its leading meter data management solutions based on EnergyIP, has been selected by Orlando Utilities Commission or OUC to support their Smart Grid initiatives.
OUC considered the Siemen's Smart Grid solutions based on EnergyIP to be the best option to further their own smart grid initiatives. A municipally owned public utility that provides reliable and quality service to Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange (News - Alert) County and Osceola counties, OUC serves more than 313,000 metered accounts.
Dan Holverson, OUC's director of applications systems explained that they were looking for a partner who not only had exceptional meter data management capabilities, but also possessed the project implementation skills to manage the integration of the company's two customer information systems and other various back-office systems into the MDMS. They were confident that Siemens (News - Alert) would fit the bill.
Holverson added that OUC was committed not only in enhancing services to utility customers by improving operational efficiency and reducing costs, but was also keen on improving billing accuracy and delivering more efficient customer service, on-demand meter reads, and remote meter connect and disconnect. He also hoped to improve the reliability and outage management by using Siemen's solution that was based on EnergyIP
In addition OUC also wanted to improve the issue time-of-use pricing programs, prompt notification of leaks, tampering and theft, as well as distribution load analysis.
Paul A. Camuti, Siemens Energy, Inc., president, USA Smart Grid Applications was proud to support OUC's Smart Grid Investment and was looking forward to bringing them the operational benefits of the Smart Grid as well as unlocking energy information for their customers, as it understood the complete energy conversion chain and was in a position to transform existing grids into smart ones.
Camuti also added that Siemens also had incorporated solutions for commercial and industrial applications as well as smart homes, including building automation, IT systems integration, advanced lighting technology and energy efficient appliances for a comprehensive Smart Grid solution.
Established in 1923 by a special act of the Florida Legislature, OUC -- The Reliable One- is an independent authority owned by the citizens of Orlando. The second largest municipal utility in Florida, OUC provides electric and water services to more than 313,000 metered accounts in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of unincorporated Orange and Osceola counties.
