Fabless semiconductor company SPiDCOM is displaying its latest reference design SPR300-AV and SPR310-AV at CES (News - Alert) 2011, in addition to demonstrating the first implementation of the Broadband Forum's TR-069 model for HomePlugAV devices.
The newly introduced SPR300-AV and SPR310-AV is based on the HomePlugAV powerline communication specification and IEEE (News - Alert) 1901 standard, enabling whole-home HD-quality entertainment over the existing electrical wires.
Apart from that, the new SPR300-AV supports SPC300 "No-limits" HomePlugAV SoC and includes gigabit Ethernet port, a "pass-through" design with a noise filter and an integrated socket, whereas the SPR310-AV is designed to enable a specific Ethernet 100Mbps bridging at lower cost and uses the SPC310 cost-optimized package.
The SPR300-AV and SPR310-AV uses an open platform approach with reference designs embed an ARM9 processor integrated inside the SoC. The company also provides source code of the Linux based firmware and development tools so that its customers can run their own applications, without having to add a costly external processor, resulting to BoM savings up to 30 percent.
This openness enables OEM differentiation leading to more sophisticated HomePlugAV end-products.
The showcase also included the world's first implementation of the Broadband Forum's (News - Alert) TR-069 model for HomePlugAV devices and the TR-069 application running on the embedded ARM9, enabling remote management of the home network.
SPiDCOM powerline communication solution specializes in converting any wire into a broadband communications network; applications include HomePlugAV Home Networking, Ethernet over Coax, Access BPL, Smart Grid and Smart Energy.
The company recently joined the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, an industry trade group devoted to the advancement of broadband over powerline (BPL) technologies, as sponsor members. As such, each organization will take a seat on the Alliance’s board of directors.
Want to learn more about smart grid? Visit the Smart Grid Summit, a collocated event with ITEXPO East 2011, being held Feb. 2 to 4, in Miami. The Smart Grid Summit is the first event of its kind to address the unprecedented opportunity coming from the intersection of two core building blocks of our economy – utilities and communications. This is the event you need to attend if you want to understand the role that IP communications technologies will play in how the Smart Grid evolves – not just for making utilities more efficient, but also for enabling the Smart Home and a new generation of communications innovations.
