eMeter Partnering with Samsung SDS to Build Up Smart Grid Infrastructure in Korea



In an effort to bring the latest energy information platform technologies to Korean utilities, eMeter, a key player in the global field of Smart Grid Management software, forged a strategic alliance with Korea based Samsung (News - Alert) SDS. The partnership agreement was signed in a ceremony at Samsung SDS offices in Seoul, Korea. The partnership, according to the market watchers, marks a major boost for the Korean smart grid market.

In a press release, eMeter explained that this multi-tiered partnership with Samsung SDS is designed to combine eMeter’s smart grid expertise with Samsung SDS' industry expertise, regional knowledge, resources and technologies to provide enhanced systems integration and development capabilities, especially with regard to SAP (News - Alert) integration.

Korea’s smart grid ambitions involve investing USD 21.6 billion between 2010 and 2030 and having 100 percent deployment of smart meters by this time. The two companies expect that the collaboration will help Korea to accomplish this Smart Grid goal.

A bill to construct and promote smart grid was passed during the plenary session of the National Assembly on April 29th. It sets a strong smart grid agenda for the country by providing a basic country-level plan to construct smart grid in the country.

Samsung SDS has, which has been a key contributor to the development of Asian smart grid market,  was in the lookout for a global technology partner that could offer value with regard to key qualifications including scalability, interoperability, agnostic to meters and an advanced interface. In addition of fulfilling the above mentioned criteria, eMeter’s portfolio also boasts of extensive experience in both the North American and European smart grid markets. All these made Samsung SDS choose eMeter as its technological partner for smart grid implementation in the Korean markets.

eMeter recently announced that the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and its agent National Grid Electric Services have selected eMeter's EnergyIP meter data management platform. The data management platform will serve as a part of the foundation to deploy a Smart Grid framework across the electric service territory, the company informed in a press release.
