“We are proud to work with Hydro-Quebec to deliver this innovative, seamless turnkey business solution which will allow for real-time connections across Quebec,” said Philippe Sicotte, vice president of Business Solutions at Rogers, in a release.

It is expected that Rogers will connect Hydro-Quebec’s central system with nearly 600 Smart Meter collectors. These are capable of gathering data relayed from the province’s 3.8 million Smart Meters.

Hydro-Quebec picked Rogers for a six year contract in view of its ability to provide M2M turnkey business solutions on a reliable network.

“Rogers deploys innovative business solutions that allow its customers to have full control of their network and their operations,” said Sicotte.  “Rogers M2M customers have peace of mind knowing that their devices are running on Rogers' proven reliable network.”

The company synergizes an optimized wireless network with the Rogers M2M Control Center which is a M2M deployment platform that is exclusive to Rogers in Canada. Rogers will also integrate hardware from partners in order to wirelessly enable M2M solutions.

Rogers will cater to the needs of Hydro-Quebec by using the services of Xplorenet Communications Inc. to provide satellite connectivity to remote parts of Quebec.

It was revealed that Rogers will start deployment for its M2M wireless connection on a trial basis of Hydro-Quebec’s Smart Meter collectors in June 2011.

Rogers leverages GPRS/EDGE/HSPA network technologies and provides access to global standards for M2M in Canada. The company’s technology enables fast delivery of next-generation connected devices for different industries.

M2M solutions ensures precise quality control, improves productivity and increases efficiency. M2M solutions help in data collection, remote control, remote monitoring, status tracking, road traffic control, security systems, fleet management, telemedicine and connected consumer devices.

In other Rogers news, PositiveID Corporation, a medical device company, has signed an agreement with Rogers Communications to improve diabetes management using the mobile technology of Rogers, according to a TMCnet report.
