Smart grid companies S&C Electric Company and Alstom Grid have just unveiled an integrated solution for electric grid that supports smart distribution through layered intelligence.
The new solution combines S&C's IntelliTeam SG Automatic Restoration System and Alstom Grid's e-terradistribution Integrated Distribution Management System (IDMS). The integrated solution offers rapid, real-time response to system conditions, according to company officials.
"Smart grid technologies can capture a wealth of data from the grid, but utilities face a challenge in making access to this data practical,” said Karim El Naggar (News - Alert), vice president, Network Management Solutions, Alstom Grid, in a statement.
“By streamlining data access and providing real-time control actions, this integrated solution gives control room operators enhanced situational awareness and empowers them to take the appropriate actions to improve grid reliability and efficiency," Naggar added.
Alstom provides turnkey integrated power plant solutions and related services for a wide variety of energy sources, including hydro, nuclear, gas, coal and wind. It offers a wide range of solutions for power transmission, with a focus on smart grids.
S&C is engaged in the process on developing new solutions for electricity delivery, fostering the improved efficiency and reliability required for the intelligent grid.
The integrated solution allows control room operators to access complete field data from S&C's IntelliTeam SG through Alstom's IDMS. Additionally, users benefit from a single user interface for enhanced situational awareness that will help them support the growing influx of data as smart grid deployments continue to expand.
"Layered intelligence solutions offer the optimal approach for smart grids by combining rapid, real-time response to system conditions with enterprise-level applications that support system planning, operation, and optimization," says Mike Edmonds, S&C vice president--Strategic Solutions, in a statement.
"The integrated system from S&C and Alstom Grid marks another step toward realizing a smarter distribution grid through layered intelligence," Edmonds added.
Earlier in June, S&C Electric Company announced it has been selected by BC Hydro for an energy storage project that will greatly improve service reliability for a remote mountain community in British Columbia, Canada.
