The Solution for a Smart Distribution Grid: S&C and Alstom Grid's Proposal

As global providers of equipment and services, S&C Electric Company, a well-known designer and manufacturer of products for electric power systems, and Alstom Grid, an expert in electrical grid management systems that offers complete and efficient power generation solutions worldwide, came together as efficient and flexible partners on January 25, 201, to introduce a solution for a smart distribution grid to improve the electricity supply worldwide.

According to two senior Alstom executives who spoke at DistribuTECH 2012 conference in San Antonio, Texas, combining S&C's IntelliTeam SG Automatic Restoration System and Alstom Grid's e-terradistribution Integrated Distribution Management System (IDMS), they are able to improve grid reliability, efficiency, and capacity with the unveiling of the smart grid.

The smart grid, which is an electric power system that delivers electricity from producers to consumers, adds communication and control capabilities remotely, is not only capable of delivering electricity but is also able to control consumer consumption. In addition, the smart grid is capable of optimizing the operation of the entire electrical grid.

By using S&C’s distributed intelligence technology with Alstom Grid’s expertise in electrical grids, Alstom believes the Smart Grid should improve the efficiency and sustainability of electricity services. Moreover, it should make the world's energy grid smarter through layered intelligence.

Collectively, S&C and Alstrom are shaping the future in making the smart grid a reality around the world as efficient and reliable as possible while helping to bring electricity delivery systems that are cost-effective into the 21st century. It is their solutions for a smart distribution grid that will support the growing downpour of data as smart grid deployments continue to expand.

The outcome of a smart distribution grid and using an integrated layered intelligence solution for an electrical grid is, it gives control room operators enhanced situational awareness. More importantly, through Alstom's IDMS, the integrated approach helps make the flow of electricity more reliable than ever before. But, it is coming up with this integrated energy management solution that will bring power to global customers.
