A press release revealed that Siemens and TIBCO will provide Con Edition with a fully integrated and secure smart grid solution, which uses standards-based software and technologies.

TIBCO's enterprise messaging technology will enable Con Edison to build up a scalable, interoperable integration framework to facilitate the real-time flow of information across deployed assets. With the deployment of the solution, it will be possible for the company to detect early warning signs and act immediately to resolve potential problems before they occur. On the other hand, with an ability to use real-time data, the customers will be more careful in their peak-time energy consumption. All these are expected to help maintain a healthy power infrastructure.

“The ability to use real-time data to manage system assets, detect early warning signs and act immediately to resolve potential problems before they occur, is necessary to maintain predictable power and help keep businesses running. With TIBCO and Siemens, Con Edison is developing an architecture that will result in use cases that can act as a blue print for other urban areas,” Murat Sonmez, executive vice president of Global Field Operations at TIBCO explained in a statement.

The Siemens Smart Grid Division is a provider of products and solutions for intelligent and flexible electrical network infrastructures, which is vital for generating and using power efficiently and on demand. The company’s smart grid visualization capabilities will provide the customers with a lightweight, browser-based user interface. This is expected to add to the convenience of the customers, officials at Con Edison maintained.

According to its website, Con Edison serves 3.3 million customers in New York—world’s one of the most important financial hubs. The company’s project manager, Patricia Robison said that the project reflects the company’s dedication to provide safe, reliable and efficient energy to its customers through smart grid investments.

“We look forward to Siemens and TIBCO…in helping us meet our smart grid project objectives,” Robison noted in a statement.

In other news, TIBCO Software Inc. recently announced tibbr 3.5, the latest version of its universal enterprise social platform, and its breakthrough new geo-location capabilities called tibbr GEO. In the 12 months since launch, tibbr has been deployed to hundreds of thousands of employees across global enterprises, who can now use tibbr to unify people, data and business processes to get work done.
