Foster City, Cali.-based eMeter, a Seimens business that provides smart grid management software, has won its first-ever contract in Norway – from Eidsiva Nett, an electric company – for its meter data management system.
Eidsiva Energi, based in Hamar with large sections of Oppland and Hedmark as core markets, is the largest producer, distributor and trader of electricity in both counties. Eidsiva Nett serves approximately 140,000 grid customers in the region. The new solution – comprising eMeter’s EnergyIP Platform and selected applications – will replace the utility’s legacy data management system, and will be a crucial to implementing a smarter grid in the Eidsiva service area.
“We see EnergyIP as a smart metering platform [that] Eidsiva Nett will utilize to both satisfy existing regulatory and business demands, and also [enable us to] be poised to quickly and easily adapt to meet future needs and programs in the Norwegian market,” said Nils Klippenberg, CEO of Smart Grid Division at Siemens (News - Alert). “We are excited for the opportunity to work with a partner such as Eidsiva Nett and look forward to establishing a long term relationship with them. We believe that more Norwegian customers will choose EnergyIP for their smart metering initiatives.”

The Platform can be configured and managed by Eidsiva in compliance with regulatory mandates that call for a 100 percent smart meter rollout by 2017. In addition to conforming to the requirements of regulatory mandate, the solution will also provide Eidsiva with better information on power usage, load and events.
What’s more, the platform will serve as a foundation for future power network developments – and for the design of more intelligent services and distribution tariffs for users.
“EnergyIP will not only meet our regulatory needs, but also meet our business-critical smart metering goals,” commented Anne S. Nysæther, project manager for Advanced Metering Systems, Eidsiva Nett. “It is crucial that the system helps to secure and simplify business processes, and we strongly believe that EnergyIP will support this. In the longer term, we will also use the information from the system for operational support and better planning through the Analytics Applications.”
“We are thrilled to work with Eidsiva Nett on meeting their smart grid initiatives and goals. Their comprehensive approach is sure to set them apart as an innovative leader in the region. We look forward to continuing to support their rollout and helping affect the bottom line of business,” said Lisa Caswell, president of eMeter.
