The research firm notes that the reform and innovation in the smart grid business entails higher requirements on the application of information technology.

This will serve as an engine for business innovation, guiding the traditional grid enterprise into the era of intelligence and information.

Last year, the State Grid Corporation of China put forward a proposal that informatization should comprehensively serve and support the development of smart grid.

According to CCID, in 2001, China Southern Power Grid Corporation initiated a development concept of “developing grid in a smart, efficient, reliable and environment-friendly manner.

The organization aims to use information technology as a means to ratchet up innovation capability in all facets.

The smart grid business model has now changed from isolated innovation, commonly seen under traditional grid model, toward collaborative innovation. Because new business fields such as large-scale renewable energy combined grid have emerged, the whole grid business will assume a striking characteristic that is integrated innovation.

Looking forward, information technology shall provide a platform for sharing the information from various business fields under smart grid. IT will promote integration of information from various layers under the grid with business.
