PowerStream, the second largest municipally-owned electricity distribution company in Ontario, has renewed its strategic relationship with Trilliant (News - Alert), a global Smart Grid communications provider, the company has announced.
Trilliant offers solutions that provide the benefits of the Smart Grid to utilities and their customers. These benefits include improved energy efficiency, enhanced grid reliability, lower operating costs, and integration of renewable energy resources.
To provide Unit Smart Meter System and Services for residential, and commercial and industrial (C&I) use; Trilliant has been selected by PowerStream. Given that smart meters form the backbone of the utility’s Smart Grid infrastructure, they are an important area of focus for PowerStream. Unit Smart metering involves measuring the energy use of individual suites in multi-occupant buildings. Benefiting the owner, building and distribution system as a whole, this allows unit owners to be accountable for their own utility use and costs.
“Trilliant is pleased to continue working with PowerStream,” said Steven Lupo, director of Trilliant Energy Services. “With a high degree of emphasis on Quality Management, we are able to ensure a seamless and enjoyable customer experience for PowerStream and its end-use customers. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to provide PowerStream with technologies that help their consumers efficiently manage and consume energy better.”
Through its in-house managed services business, Trilliant will provide PowerStream with engineering design services, project management, installation, commissioning and data management services. Trilliant is working with Quadlogic Corporation as a technology partner in this opportunity, the company stated in a press release.
Recently, the company announced a partnership with HD Supply Utilities, a large distributor to municipalities and co-ops in the U.S. The companies’ first engagement is with Victoria Electric Cooperative in Victoria, Texas. The companies are working together on a pilot program that involves the deployment of Trilliant’s multi-tier SecureMesh Smart Grid solution to deliver advanced utility services. If the 90-day pilot is a success it could lead to a full rollout throughout Victoria Electric Cooperative’s 1,800- square-mile territory.
