Southern states belong to the three of the “top five” list. These new customers are adding smart home features like remote door locks, video surveillance, energy management, and lighting and small appliance control to basic security packages. The top five list also includes two Midwestern states.

Top five states include North Dakota (74.53 percent), Arkansas (71.6 percent), Tennessee (68.22 percent), Georgia (65.21 percent) and Nebraska (64.93 percent).

There is a demand for smart home technologies as they are more affordable and easier to use. New technologies, professional installation services and innovative financing plans, convenience and energy management benefits are driving the growth of the home automation segment.

“Customers love the ease and functionality of being able to control their security, lighting and small appliances through a smartphone or computer,” said Alex Dunn, chief operations officer at Vivint, in a statement. “In states where the temperatures can fluctuate quickly, the ability to remotely adjust your thermostat is especially appealing.”

Last month, Vivint completed its 1 millionth customer installation, Decatur, Alabama resident James Owen.

“My grandchildren are always teasing me about being old fashioned when it comes to technology,” Owen said. “Vivint’s installation and service techs took time to show me how to use my new system. Thanks to their great customer service and Vivint’s easy-to-use technology, I can now use my smartphone to manage my door locks, lights and even thermostat.”

Recently, Vivint announced the launch of its smart grid training center. The training center will prepare technicians for full scale AMI deployment, including the installation of home area network (HAN) and load control devices, EV chargers and much more. The facility in Texas houses two fully equipped model smart homes outfitted with Vivint’s home automation, energy and security solutions.
