GÖRLITZ AG, a premier manufacturer of advanced meter reading and energy information management systems, has chosen Sierra Wireless (News
- Alert) to provide the wireless connectivity solution for its Ethernet / GPRS router.
The company’s router connects to energy meters and allows utilities to remotely collect energy usage data.
Combining an AirPrime Q2686 embedded wireless module with the Open ATframework, the Sierra Wireless solution helps customers like GÖRLITZ get their products to market quickly.
GÖRLITZ was in need of an end-to-end solution that could offer key elements already pre-packaged and proven, including TCP/IP stack, FTP, and network address translation. It also was seeking an operating system designed for machine-to-machine metering applications, and application development needed to be simple, using standard C/C++ and easy-to-use development tools.
Finally, GÖRLITZ required industrial grade hardware that was proven in energy applications. To meet all its needs, the company opted for Sierra Wireless. With this selection, now GORLITZ will be provided with the quality hardware and the high level of technical support.
In addition to this, Sierra Wireless will also provide GÖRLITZ with extensive experience in providing wireless machine-to-machine solutions for energy applications.
“Sierra Wireless provided all of the elements we needed to put together the wireless solution we were looking for, along with the expertise to help us along the way,” said Helmut Ratzenhofer, Chief Executive Officer for GÖRLITZ Austria GmbH, in a release. “Working with Sierra Wireless allowed us to focus on our own core strengths – we didn’t need to become wireless experts to integrate the connectivity we needed and get our router to market quickly.”
In related news, Sierra Wireless has announced several new features of its platform for embedded machine-to-machine application development.
