The convergence of information technology (IT) and operations technology (OT) is perhaps the year's most important trend. And from what we are seeing, it seems pretty clear that utilities that fail to converge IT and OT over the next few years will get far fewer smart grid benefits. And far more smart grid problems.

But it's certainly not going to be easy to merge two different organizations that have been separate for 30 years or more. Not to mention two different mindsets.
