IEEE Issues its Smart Grid Newsletter

IEEE, the professional association advancing technology for humanity, has introduced the publication of the November edition of the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter, providing insightful material from thought leaders in standards, electric vehicles, superconductors, data analytics, and the macro view of the future grid.

According to a press release, the November issue of the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter contains the insights of the shared expertise of authors from telecommunications, energy economics, automotive engineering, and transformational business.

Jim Maguire, senior vice president of engineering and grid segment at American Superconductor (News - Alert) (AMSC), discusses how high-temperature superconductor technology can be utilized to the rescue of intermittency and transmission challenges of renewable energies.

Christine Hertzog, IEEE Power & Energy Society member, and managing director of the Smart Grid Library, draws the parallel from a data analytics perspective between the distribution grid and wireless service provision -- recommending mirroring best practices from the enterprise network and telecommunications industries.

Jack Pokrzywa, international director of SAE Ground Vehicle Standards, and Mary Reidy who is chair of the IEEE P2030.1 Draft Guide for Electric-Sourced Transportation Infrastructure Working Group, detail how the strategic partnership between IEEE and SAE International has produced the world's first industry-consensus standard to provide critical guidelines for safety, charging control, and connectors used to charge electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

 In other company news, TMCnet reported that the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board has approved a revised version of the IEEE 1666 "Standard SystemC Language Reference Manual."
