SUBNET Promotes Cyber-Security for North American Utilities

SUBNET Solutions is facilitating NERC (News - Alert) CIP compliance for a top North American utility.

SUBNET Solutions is a global software solutions provider for electrical utilities. The company will integrate an IED access control security solution- SUBNET's PowerSYSTEM Center -- for this agreement.

This integration enables the utility to securely manage its large install base of disparate intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) that have been deployed across its entire transmission and distribution system.

Because SUBNET allows the utility to establish a comprehensive IED access and password management solution, users can maintain passwords to meet NERC CIP requirements in an easy manner.

SUBNET claims its solution will address both local IED access control and remote IED access control.

In addition to automating password updates, SUBNET's IED password management solution will enable the utility to manage the workflow process for device passwords that has to be changed manually.

Currently, both partners are working towards installing SUBNET’s unified IED access control security solution, which helps the utility comply with legislated cyber security policies, including NERC CIP standards.

"The reason more and more utilities are turning to SUBNET technology is we offer a comprehensive solution to help address many NERC CIP requirements," said Ameen Hamdon, president of SUBNET. "Our IED access and password management solution is designed to work seamlessly with multi-vendor IEDs. It provides enhanced security capabilities in substation devices, including legacy devices, which defers the need to replace older IEDs."
