Guiyang Power Selects Telvent's Smart Grid Technology

Spanish technology giant Telvent has recently inked a deal with the Guiyang Electrical Power Supply Company to extend its smart grid technology that the Chinese power supplier can leverage to collect and analyze real-time operational data.

Telvent’s technology solution is critical for the Chinese company as it helps to restore the power supply quickly by locating the disruption on the distribution network in a matter minutes.

Guiyang Power wants to use the technology for revitalizing its electricity distribution network that reaches nearly four million people in China’s Guizhou province. Electricity is a vital commodity for China’s ever expanding manufacturing economy and in this location utilities are struggling to cope with the need.

With Telvent's smart grid solutions, Guiyang Power will have access to critical data through an intuitive interface that seamlessly integrates with its current software. The utility will collect data from approximately one million data points for analysis and solve service disruptions more quickly by locating the incident, isolating it and providing recommendations on how best to restore the power supply – all through a dispatcher's remote control commands to field devices rather than through a manual procedure.

Telvent's Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez said in a statement, "We are pleased to continue our relationship with Guiyang Power and to provide comprehensive smart grid solutions that allow its distribution network to operate more efficiently. Our technology will not only meet Guiyang Power's needs today, but will serve as the foundation for future smart grid developments."

Currently, Telvent's advanced distribution management system technology is deployed in more than 20 countries around the world and serves 66 million utility customers and was recently given a "positive" rating following an analysis by Gartner, Inc., the world's leading information technology research and advisory company in its March 2011 report, "MarketScope for Advanced Distribution Management Systems."
