North America’s leading provider of software solutions for energy industry, Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI) announced that Burbank Water & Power (BWP) is going to utilize its webDistribute solution into its smart grid infrastructure. The solution is going to deliver smart grid functions for BWP’s Integrated Automated Dispatch Systems (Integrated ADS).
OATI webDistribute is a U.S. Patent Pending application designed with scalability. Based on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News
- Alert)) model, the solution supports industry standards for enterprise and business-to-business interoperability. OATI webDistribute provides a set of capabilities to address the smart grid requirements, including Direct Load Control, various DR/DER programs, Plug-In Electric Vehicles, and Variable Generation resources such as wind and solar. OATI webDistribute adheres to stringent cyber security and information privacy measures, and is compliant with NERC (News - Alert) CIP standards.
This system will enable BWP’s power system staff to effectively schedule and dispatch information about power resources while attending to risk margins, economics, as well as environments goals and regulations. The system will also allow the company to earn public trust by effectively documenting the savings and benefits, according to officials.
As a whole, OATI webDistribute will enable Burbank to effectively manage its resources and enhance the control over current power control system and utility energy storage. The system will also enable coordination of resources at the customer premise.
With OATI webDistribute, BWP will be able to adopt a cooperative demand management approach for its large customers. Given the increased share of intermittent renewable resources, such as wind, the Integrated ADS will enable BWP system operators to optimize system reliability while achieving the most economical supply portfolio to balance load and generation. This will help minimize inadvertent interchange with neighboring systems, the company explained in a press release.
“This system will provide the tools and accountability to enable our power system staff to effectively schedule and dispatch power resources while attending to risk margins, economics, as well as environments goals and regulations while providing the documentation of the savings and benefits so necessary for effective management and public trust,” BWP Assistant General Manager of Power Supply Fred Fletcher explained in a statement.
Last year, OATI announced that it has been selected by Electric Power of Chattanooga (EPB), to integrate OATI webDistribute into EPB’s smart grid infrastructure. OATI webDistribute was expected to provide EPB the platform and applications needed to improve power system economics, reliability, and environmental compliance by fully integrating Demand Response (DR) and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) capabilities with EPB’s power system operations.
