S&C Electric Company, specializing in smart grids for optimizing electricity distribution by electric utilities, announced the debut of a suite of new products for smart grids.
According to officials this new enhanced and expanded solution leverages the capabilities of intelligent devices embedded throughout the grid to enhance reliability, capacity, and efficiency.
In a release Mike Edmonds, S&C vice president of Strategic Solutions said, “Utilities today are expected to deliver ever-higher levels of electric service reliability while also reducing costs and greenhouse gas emissions through improved efficiency.”
“In a time of economic uncertainty, S&C continues its commitment to innovate smart grid solutions that provide real benefits today and also build a foundation to meet future energy requirements,” Edmonds added.
S&C launched its IntelliTeam DEM Distributed Energy Management platform which enables the optimization of energy usage of community energy storage (CES (News - Alert)) resources especially for utilities.
IntelliTeam DEM enables energy dispatch with convenient real-time and archival data storage. It also seamlessly integrates with all central office systems resulting in an integrated solution. It serves as a single entry point for huge aggregations of CES units enabling optimum functionality like that of a virtual power plant.
Jim Sember, S&C vice president of Power Quality Products remarked, “An integrated system with IntelliTeam DEM can provide the equivalent reserve of a peaking power plant, but at a fraction of the cost and with much greater flexibility in addressing distribution system capacity constraints. IntelliTeam DEM, used in conjunction with CES fleets, also helps utilities buffer the effects of distributed renewable resources, like solar panels, to ensure grid stability and reliability.”
Officials at S&C announced more enhanced features for the IntelliTeam SG Automatic Restoration System and IntelliRupter Pulsecloser. These features are imperative for the company’s self-healing solutions.
IntelliTeam SG features broken conductor detection capabilities to help utilities find if a distribution line is physically broken besides including facilities to simplify use of the new software.
The company also announced the launch of its new 38-kV IntelliRupter models that increases the applications of the Pulseclosing technology. The features make the operation of the pad-mounted IntelliRupter model simple as it is meant for use on underground distribution lines.
In September 2011, S&C celebrated its centennial anniversary with the opening of its Smart Grid Solutions Demonstration Center at the company’s global headquarters in Chicago.
