According to organizers, the summit has been created in an effort to bring together two worlds in a unique setting designed to identify how they can create new opportunities and drive innovation with IP communications technologies.
In conjunction with Intelligent Communication Partners, or ICP, the event is expected to address how a utility can deploy telecom-based solutions to not only make its grid smarter, but to enable the Smart Home
and enable a new generation of revenue-generating services, according to Jon Arnold (News
), co-founder of Intelligent Communications Partners.
Arnold called the teaming a natural fit, citing TMC’s extensive reach into the telecom and IT space, providing all the elements to help the summit become the leading Smart Grid event.
“Smart Grid has attracted strong interest from an unusually wide circle of players, and with so many being from the IP communications world, we felt the time was right for launching the Smart Grid Summit,” said Arnold.
According to Arnold, combining the reach of ITEXPO into the communications sector with ICP’s focus on Smart Grid, the Summit will be a first of its kind event to create a new community around the intersection of energy, the Smart Home, telecom and IT.
Arnold says there are plenty of parallels between the smart grid utilities space and communications that will only become more pronounced in the near future. He hopes the Smart Grid Summit at ITEXPO is just the first step in bridging the collaboration gap that currently exists between the groups.
“At the end of the day we are all focused on the on same customers,” said Arnold. “Smart homes are all about creating smart communications. There is a whole new world of possibilities within the telecom space.”
Shidan Gouran, co-founder of Intelligent Communications Partners, said, that while much of the excitement around revamping the national energy grid is due to the immediate economic savings to both consumers and industry – including the significant government initiatives such as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – through optimized and thoughtful energy use together is critical to survival itself.
“The smart grid is about communicating the messages required by both people and machines in making the informed choices,” said Gouran. “At the Smart Grid Summit, we will be joined by the individuals and organizations given the task of making this vision a reality.”
According to both organizations, the Smart Grid Summit will address the unprecedented opportunity coming from the intersection of two core building blocks of the economy – utilities and communications. This event is based on the joint vision of TMC and Intelligent Communications Partners to create a new forum for and actively engage an entire community that has, until now, lacked a focal point.
