Itron, a technology provider to the global energy and water industries, reportedly
announced it completed successful testing between the latest edition of its Itron Enterprise Edition Meter Data Management solution and SAP (

Alert) AMI Integration for Utilities software.
The integration lets IEE MDM to meter data unification and synchronization or “MDUS” with SAP advanced metering infrastructure or “AMI” solution.
The communication between the two offerings will help utilities spend less time and money on total AMI solution design, integration and implementation, company sources said.
“So many of our customers are beginning to realize the true benefit of a fully integrated end-to-end smart grid solution,” Julie Hance, vice president of software solutions for Itron North America, said in a statement.
The solution reduces the amount of customintegration and risk, which utilities have to shoulder and manage. It also provides a lower overall lifecycle cost, said company officials, Hance further said.
This integration is presented to the SAP AMI Lighthouse Council. Formed in 2007, the Council aims to foster integration between meter data unification and synchronization systems like IEE MDM with AMI systems and downstream solutions such as the SAP for Utilities solution portfolio, according to company officials.
SAP for Utilities includes various MDUS integration points, including device creation and management and meter-reading management, the company said.
The council also works to identify and support common smart metering business processes and use cases that must be supported by IEE MDM and SAP AMI Integration for Utilities, they added. It also defines, supports, and tests the critical integration points required to enable common business processes.
Itron recently
announced it got an opportunity to highlight the importance of advanced smart grid solutions at the climate conference at Copenhagen. Itron’s president and CEO, Malcolm Unsworth, was present at Copenhagen to highlight these solutions and to reiterate Itron's position that clear direction on carbon mitigation policy is necessary in order to increase the adoption rates of smart grid technologies, the announcement said.
